Karmann was founded in 1901 by Wilhelm Karmann. The company mainly worked as a coachbuilder for several German companies
until 1945, after WWII mainly for Volkswagen. Its most famous car built
was the Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia, a car based on the VW Beetle and built between 1955 and 1973.
Most of the Volkswagen convertibles were built at the Karmann factories. Later Karmann accepted the orders
from other companies, too, to built cars for them. Today, Karmann is fighting against a bankruptcy.
